Yet another Wave!!

If you can win after disastrous strategic actions like demonetization, sloppy implementation of GST, unemployment at its peak, contentious and corrupt defence deal, instigating divide in the country on religious basis, interfering in central institutions like RBI and CBI then you need a miracle. If not, you need a weak and clueless opponent.

During last election, there was modi wave for a change owing to disastrous non functioning of UPA 2 and corruption charges against the allies. The Modi-Shah combination ambushed the incumbent leaving them clueless and the landslide that happened was on expected line.

The Congress was in the other side in this election, still BJP exceeded their previous tally while Congress ended up in similar range as that of last election.

The country is painted saffron from Bengaluru to Banaras and from Gujarat to Arunachal Pradesh. The Congress has won around 31 seats (from kerala, Tamil Nadu and Punjab put together) and a meagre 20 seats from the rest of the states and union territories.

Looking back, nothing seems to have gone their way. Decimation in UP after so much efforts put by Congress shows where their strategy miserably failed. The fact that Rahul Gandhi contested in Wayanad in the last minute shows that Congress had a pulse that they might lose Amethi. If Congress cannot win in Amethi, then rest of the places in UP (apart from Rae Bareily) was out of question. Then what was the reason to go alone in UP and spend so much efforts when there was writing on the wall ? In that process, the entire focus on the other states was lost and then came the massive blow from Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Gujarat and any other states from the western ghats to the Eastern coastal line.

Absence of Fiery speeches, strong leadership, strong allies, inability to highlight the blunders by the government have led to the failure. The package failed, they missed to ride on the shortcoming from the government, the saffron wave swept much harder this time. It is time for the mom, son and sister to step aside and pave way for someone else. Else the party is going to be lost forever. It is too risky a bet for Rahul to continue as the face of Congress.

Let us hope that Modi 2.0 regime will be inclusive and progressive as promised and hope for a better fight from opposition in the next election.

    1. Someone has to come up, need not be popular right now, long term planning is required
